The district museum Bezirksmuseum Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg shows, in a typical factory building at the Kottbusser Tor, the permanent exhibitions "Geschichte wird gemacht" on the urban development after 1945 and "…ein jeder nach seiner Fasson?“ on 300 years of immigration to the urban area of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. On the five floors of the building, there are also special exhibitions on the regional history, an extense archive where all interested people get information, and a reference library. At the ground floor, there are a historical case room and a printing room. They are used for pupil workshops and courses of the Volkshochschule (adult education centre).

The museum education offers for children, youth, and adults as well as the thematic guided tours through the neighbourhood do also involve the environment of the museum, for example the Luisenstadt steeped in history with its legendary postal area SO 36. Very popular especially among young people are the so-called X-Berg-Tage (X-Berg days): Young people living in Kreuzberg, some of them with Turkish and Arab migration background, lead through the museum and the neighbourhood. For the current programme, see under www.kreuzbergmuseum.de
