Those who are interested in the history of Marzahn-Hellersdorf, should visit the village Marzahn. Here, there is, next to the old village school (built in 1911/1012) on the historical meadow surrounded by the prefabricated concrete-slab high-rise buildings from the 1970s, the local museum (Bezirksmueum).
The museum stresses on the social and everyday history of villages and settlement areas since the midst of the 19th century, as well as on large suburban housing estates with pre-fabricated elements. With numerous special exhibitions on regional topics, the museum gained its reputation beyond the borders of the borough. Additional, a permanent exhibition will inform on the borough´s history; the first (out of three) module started in 2005.
The museum´s archive is open for all interested for research (please, announce your coming). Since 1994, there are monthly lectures on the regional history. Guided tours through the village of Marzahn and the suburban housing estates on demand. For pupil groups, the museum offers museum educational projects, e.g. on research. One can also get publications of the regional history at the museum.
