Willy Brandt (1913-1992) is one of the most outstanding German statesman of the 20th century. His policy for reconciliation, peace, freedom and social justice decisively influenced not only the history of Germany. His words spoken the day after the Berlin Wall had fallen in 1989 remain unforgotten: “Now what belongs together is growing together again.”
At its new location in the Forum Willy Brandt Berlin (Unter den Linden 62-68) the Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation now shows a brief presentation of the vital stages of Brandt´s life. Based on multimedia features a new Willy Brandt exhibition presenting his personal and political career is scheduled to open in the summer of 2012. Therein, his years in exile in Scandinavia and his work as Governing Mayor of Berlin, his time as Foreign Minister and as Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany as well as his global committment as elder statesman will be depicted by numerous exhibits from Brandt´s estate: e.g. his correspondence with John F. Kennedy and the certificate of the Nobel Peace Price he was awarded in 1971. Personal documents, family pictures and letters will also offer an insight into Willy Brandt´s private life as a friend, father and husband.

Due to construction work the exhibit is currently closed. A new permanent exhibition on Willy Brandt and his life in politics will be open in June 2012.
