The Anti-Kriegs-Museum (Anti War Museum) was founded in 1925 by the Berliner pacifist and anarchist Ernst Friedrich who had moaned, in his photo documentation "War against War!" published in 1924, the horror of the First World War. In 1933, his collection was destroyed by the National Socialists. 1982, 15 years after his death, the Anti-Kriegs-Museum was re-opened. Friedrich´s grandson Tommy Spree and a committed group of volunteers - among them many teachers - take care of the museum´s affairs. The museum, as a non-profit organisation, lives mostly on donations.
The Anti-War Museum´s displays include photographs, documents and objects from the First and Second World War, among others, decorations, war-glorifying postcards, diaries and letters of soldiers, and pictures of severely injured people. One can also see war toys from past centuries
A large map of the world informs about present day wars and conflicts. The exhibition does also dwell on modern warfare, i.e. to chemical and biological warfare agents.
Via stairs, one reaches an air-raid shelter from Second World War. Equipped with many authentic objects, the shelter evokes the uneasy atmosphere of sleepless nights when Berlin was bombarded.
Changing exhibitions and information inform on current issues and activities of the peace movement.
