Astronomy is observation and measurement – that is the central theme of the exhibition on astronomy in the historic building of the Archenhold Observatory.
Since 1909, the observatory has been presenting exhibitions on the topic of astronomy (one of the oldest sciences of mankind) and is the largest public observatory in Germany.
In addition to the »Large Refractor«, the world’s longest lens telescope, the historic Einstein Hall and the Zeiss Minor Planetarium feature among the attractions of the Archenhold Observatory. Alternating special exhibitions are dedicated to the development of astronomy and highlight different focal points.
Furthermore, the Archenhold Observatory offers an extensive program of related events and activities for children and adults.
A special feature is that one can observe the starlit sky over Berlin through the giant telescope from September to March on every second Friday of the month. Otherwise, on Fridays, one can undertake observations through the 500-mm-reflector telescope if no clouds are blocking the view.
