The Architekturmuseum der Technischen Universität Berlin (Architecture Museum of the Technical University Berlin) was founded in 1885 as the first public architecture collection in Germany. Here, mainly architecture drawings from Prussian and German architects of the 19th and 20th centuries. Heavy losses at World War II reduced the stock by more of the half down to about 20.000 drawings. Till 2007, the stocks include 100.000 drawings and pictures, thanks to numerous single purchases, purchases of drawings from the library of the Architekten- und Ingenieurvereins zu Berlin, and purchases and donations of estates. Outstanding are the (part) estates of Alfred Messel, Hans Poelzig, Otto Kohtz, Hermann Jansen, and Hermann Mattern.
Besides numerous exhibition participations and exhibitions at the forum of the architecture building at the Technical University (at the basement of the Scharoun wing at Ernst-Reuter-Platz), the museum shows, in its own gallery, studio exhibitions from its own stocks, but also projects of guests. It serves primarily to international scientific research on construction and art.
From 2009, the almost complete stock will be accessible via internet.
