The U-Bahn-Museum (Museum of the Underground Trains) is located, since 1997, at the former signal box Olympia-Stadion. Until its coming into being in 1931 until its closing in 1983, this electro-mechanic hydraulic signal box was the biggest of its kind in Europe. From here, 616 tracks and 99 signals were monitored and controlled.
Historical tickets serve as entrance tickets, given at a historical ticket window at the museum´s entry. The more than 100 years old history of the Berlin U-Bahn is documented by underground net plans since 1936, old ticket automates, historical uniforms and badges. A staff´s room of train dispatchers from the 1950s and various tools from the railway boards give an insight into the working world in the tube tunnels. Though, the focus of the collection is on technical institutions, which are still in working order. Among them are various signal box types, a historical clock station, ticket windows from wagons since 1901, train radio sets, a diagnosis computer for maintenance, and a signal block from 1931.
The more than 30 underground wagons restored by the AG Berliner U-Bahn e.V. - the oldest is from 1902 – are not exhibited due to lack of space. Though, at special trips, at least some of the old trains are used.
