The Verborgene Museum e.V. (Hidden Museum, an incorporated society) is the worldwide only institution which deals, as programme, with the public presentation and scientific accounting for the past of the life works of female artists, who fell into oblivion for various reasons.
Since its foundation in 1986, the Verborgene Museum has presented, in exhibitions and publications, the life works of about 100 female artists. Scientific publications establish a basis for the integration into the academic discourse as well as for a valuation on the art market.
The society has tied, by national and international connections to museums, archives, and universities, gallery owners, executors, and the public, a network, which itself brings into light the forgotten and spread estates of other female artists. Among the again known artists are Gertrud Arndt, Dorothy Bohm, Ida Gerhardi, Marta Hegemann, Lily Hildebrandt, Lotte Jacobi, Lotte Laserstein, Käthe Loewenthal, Else Lohmann, Marie Vassilieff, Hilde Weström, and Yva.
