The association "Förderkreis zur Sammlung historischer Anlagenteile und Geräte aus der Technik der Strom- und Wärmeversorgung Berlins e.V." was founded on May 10, 2001 by employees and former employees of the Bewag (Berliner Elektrizitätswerke AG). The non-profit association runs, at the building of the former battery storage-type plant on the area of the former cogeneration plant Steglitz, the Energie-Museum Berlin (Energy Museum Berlin). It intends to show the development of energy technology and its context with " Electropolis“ Berlin. Especially young people should get informed about energy supply engineering.
The Energie-Museum has several departments: power plant engineering technology, net technology, public lighting, communication technology, measurement technique, occupational safety, application technology.
For the management and the all members of the Energie-Museum Berlin are volunteers, visiting the museum is possible only by arrangement. Then, it is also possible to get a tour guided by an employee who can deal with the special interests of the visitors.
