The memorial site "Köpenicker Blutwoche Juni 1933“ ("Köpenick Blood Week June 1933") is located in the former prison of the district court of Köpenick. One gets there by crossing the court yard at Puchanstraße No.12.
In May 1933, the storm troop of the Köpenick paramilitary SA established its headquarters in some rooms of the district court. With the events starting in June 1933, which are now known as the "Köpenicker Blutwoche“, the SA confiscated the prison and abused it as central detainment and torture site at Köpenick. Under the leadership of the local leader of the SA storm, Herbert Plönzke, the SA led a brutal terror campaign against dissidents. Hundreds of dissidents, among them many members of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Communist Party (KP), were misused, at least 22 lost their lives in the week between June 21 and June 26, 1933.
The courses of the events, the reaction of the public, and the trial against Plönzke and others in 1950 are documented in a very impressing way at the memorial site. Guided tours, even beyond the opening hours, can be booked under 030-90297-5671 or 030-90297-3351.
