The special exhibitions of the Naturwissenschaftliche Sammlung (Scientific Collection) deal with the scientific aspects of Berlin and its environment: The regional fauna, the evolution of landscape forms, the geological subsurface and its influence on the ground, material, and settlement. The historical and current relations of the population of Berlin with regard to nature and the consequences of human intervention are discussed as well as the multiple role of nature for the culture history of Berlin. At the collection, one meets not only the bear as the heraldic animal of Berlin, but also most different examples for the regional fauna, amongst it he unique collection of bird eggs of Oscar Heinroth as well as damage preparations from agriculture and forestry. Also on focus is the regional geology (ice-age rubble, micro fossils, palaeontology, models on the geological-morphological situation).
Flashlight tours for children, lectures, holiday workshops, and other museum education activities should fascinate also the younger and the youngest visitors for the scientific collection.
Closed since May 2011. See Märkisches Museum – Berlin City Museum.
