The gorgeous mansion at the Berlin district of Neukölln was built in 1706 replacing a medieval half-timbered house. In 1880, it got today´s form, when the owner renewed the facade in a neo-Renaissance style and added a tower. The Park behind the castle was reconstructed at the style of the turn of the century.
At the 18th century, the mansion was possessed by high-ranking Prussian royal servants and state ministers. Its time of prosperity was under Ewald Friedrich Graf von Hertzberg (1725-1795); he established a model manor and introduced numerous innovations in agriculture. The mansion, the pond, the village green, and the church with the classicist extension, commissioned by Hertzberg as family tomb, are preserved.
The historical rooms at the ground floor of the mansion are accessible to the public. With its dark furniture and thick curtains, they visualise they visualise the home decor of the Gründerzeit. The tours leads through a study room and a boudoir, a concert hall, and a patio room.
Additionally, there are special exhibitions at Schloss Britz, shown in cooperation with international museums, and readings and concerts are arranged, and, on the estate, there are also concerts in Summer. End of 2009, the Museum Neukölln will move to the estate.
