Carl Gotthard Langhans erected the Belvedere of the Charlottenburg Palace grounds in 1788 as a lookout pavilion for King Frederick William II. of Prussia. Since 1971, the KPM Porcelain Collection of the federal state of Berlin is here. It is the most important public collection of Berlin porcelain.
The collection comprises works from the manufacturers Wilhelm Caspar Wegely (1751-1757), Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky (1761-1763), and from the holding known as the KPM since 1763, when it was taken over by King Frederick II.
Following an extensive renovation of the building, the collection is now presented in three sections with the themes: porcelain for tea and coffee, for dinnerware services and for interior decoration.
One can admire delicate paintings of putti, the commemorative cups from the liberation of the Napoleonic occupation, the Rococo and Neoclassical dinnerware services, magnificently refined vases with views of the royal palaces and gardens, and much more.
