The Heimatmuseum (local history museum) Reinickendorf is located at the old village school house of Hermsdorf. The history of Reinickendorf is shown in topic-related rooms, thus, at the room for prehistoric and early history, with an important profile of a Palaeolithic store cavern from the Tegeler Fließ, and, at the six-villages-room, where the development of the burough is explained by the medieval villages Tegel, Hermsdorf, Lübars, Heiligensee, Wittenau, and Reinickendorf. There is also a historical school room, which refers to the original use of the museum; school classes like to use it at guided tours. Besides a room for hunters, a room for craftsmen, a Biedermeier room, and a washhouse, one can also see the reconstructed study of Wladimir Lindenberg, a doctor, philosopher, artist, and author persecuted by the National Socialist who died in 1997. In a children´s room, there are historical toys, some of them hand-made.
On the open-air ground behind the museum, there is a reconstructed Germanic farm with a walk-in nave, a weaving house, and a store house.
Besides the permanent exhibitions, there are two or three special exhibition per year. At the pottery, courses for children and adults are offered, and every Monday, there is a "narration workshop" for adults.
