Museumsportal Berlin

The museum re-founded in 1987 is the successor institution of the Städtische und Deutsches Schulmuseum (1875/76). Besides its emphasis on German and Berlin school history, the museum deals in general with the history of childhood and youth. Extensive objects, teaching and illustrative material, photos, books, and artworks document the history of childhood and school. In an historical class room, the lives of Berlin school children one hundred years ago are. The thematic room "Die große Welt im Kleinen" shows items from the unique stock of the museum of historical toys from two centuries. In a scriptorium, the visitors can try to write with goosequill and feather.

In special exhibitions, the lived-in world and the experiences of nowadays pupils are of interest. Furthermore, activities like special tours, events for pupils and teachers, readings, birthday parties, and join-in actions under the motto crafting and playing after historical models are offered.
