This catalogue is being published in conjunction with the first large-scale exhibition ever devoted to the drawings of this artist.
Born in Lakewood, Ohio, Sturtevant attained outstanding importance for the history of art of the second half of the twentieth century. Featuring more then one hundred of her drawings, the show provides in-depth insight into her graphic work over four decades, from 1964 to 2004.
The result of the research on Sturtevant's graphic work suggest that her early drawings of the 1960s are the key to understanding her uncompromising conceptual thought and her status in art history as a kind of "mega Pop" or "Pop surplus".
