How is Namibia portrayed in movies and what do cinematic images teach us about stereotypes and colonial legacies?
During this interactive workshop, participants will view film clips representing Namibia and South West Africa. Dr. Fazila Bhimji is going to hold the workshop. She engages in postcolonial discourse and popular culture. For the workshop she chose film clips produced in Namibia, Germany and Hollywood that depict life in Namibia as well as Germany’s colonial past. The overall aim of the workshop in conjunction with the exhibition BURIED MEMORIES is to raise awareness to concepts of stereotypes, ethnocentrism, colonial legacies and self-representation through film. There will be opportunity to talk about your impression as a viewer and to engage in discussions.
