main content start,

In his long-term research project Bannkörbe, Aladin Borioli (*1988, Switzerland) explores the socio-historical, political and ecological relationship between humans and bees in an artistic and research-based manner in collaboration with actors from various disciplines. bannkörbe is one of many sub-projects of Apian - a collaborative entity initiated by Aladin Borioli and an archive that is constantly expanding and never closed. The complex exhibition is divided into various stations that shed light on the concept of the beehive, ancient bee beliefs and the fascinating possibilities of technology in the implementation of alternative methods of beekeeping. The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication by Spector Books, featuring an essay and an interview with the award-winning theorist Bas Blaasse.

In the Artist Tour , the two winners of the C/O Berlin Talent Award 2023 Aladin Borioli(Artist) and Bas Blaasse(Theorist) will guide visitors through the exhibition together with Veronika Epple, Junior Curator C/O Berlin. In addition to insights into bee research and beekeeping, they will talk about the possibilities and limits of visual anthropology and the potential of thinking art and science together.

Aladin Borioli (*1988, CH) studied graphic design at the École d'arts appliqués de La Chaux-de-Fonds, photography at the Lausanne School of Art and Design (ECAL) and holds a Master of Arts in Visual and Media Anthropology from the Free University of Berlin. His work is at the intersection of art, science and beekeeping. He has received awards and scholarships in the fields of art and science, most recently a scholarship at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg (Germany). His work has been shown at the Festival Images, Vevey and the Center d'Art Neuchâtel (CAN, both Switzerland). His publication Hives 2400 B.C.E. - 1852 C.E., published in 2020, presents collected archive material on the subject of beekeeping.

Bas Blaasse (*1991, NL) writes about art and culture, often focusing on camera-based media and performing arts. His texts operate at the interface between fiction and theory. He studied philosophy in Leuven, Berlin and Brussels and photography in Breda. He works mainly in the Netherlands and Belgium and is currently an editor at HART Magazine.

The C/O Berlin Talent Award is presented once a year in the categories Artist and Theorist to a tandem under the age of 35. It includes prize money for both winners, a solo exhibition and an individually designed publication. A joint artist talk rounds off the collaboration between theory and practice. The artists are nominated for the C/O Berlin Talent Award by a committee of international experts. Theoreticians can apply during an open call. The C/O Berlin Talent Award is supervised by Veronika Epple, Junior Curator C/O Berlin.
