"Why don't you make a film about Berlin - without a story?" According to legend, this question from Carl Mayer was at the beginning. Walter Ruttmann shows a day in the life of the city, from the empty streets in the morning to the hustle and bustle of the day and the pleasures of the evening.
The film tells of workers, clerks and schoolchildren, councillors of commerce, mannequins and beggars. About cars, streetcars and D-trains, love, marriage and death, slaughterhouse, Wannsee and zoo. About the rhythm of the big city with all its contrasts. (www.filmportal.de)
The film is accompanied live by Anna Vavilkina on the Mighty Wuritzer theater organ.
