Reinhold Begas (1831 – 1911), Amor und Psyche, Skulptur / Marmor (1854-57)
Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Alte Nationalgalerie, / Andres Kilger

The Academy's lecture series invite you to engage intensively with art and cultural history topics. They open the view beyond the collections and special exhibitions of the National Museums.

Schadow, Rauch and Begas are the best-known names of some 400 sculptors who were active on the Spree in the 19th century. The so-called Berlin School of Sculpture created portraits and monuments across the generations. The lecture series invites a comparison of the works, focusing on bust, religious works, mythological themes and public monuments. In addition, the function of the public monument in the present day will be addressed.

The speaker of the series is the art historian Lutz Stöppler, M.A.
