It starts with the name: Is it Catalan, Valencian, Mallorcan? Or doesn't everyone speak Spanish anyway? And how do people respond to a "bon dia" when it comes from someone they don't expect? On this evening, our guests will analyze the use of language in Catalan-speaking countries and the everyday nature of language policy in dialogue with the audience.
Prof. Dr. Carsten Sinner has been a university professor of Ibero-Romance linguistics and translation studies at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology at the University of Leipzig since May 2008.
Juliana Canet is a successful influencer and co-founder of Canal Malaia, an independent influencer platform in Catalan that won the 2020 Pompeu Fabra Prize for Communication and New Technologies. The event in cooperation with the Representation of the Government of Catalonia in Germany will be moderated by author and Catalan translator Michael Ebmeyer.
