Cabinet exhibition:
Looking through the keyhole - insights into the Spandau church library
May 1 to October 26, 2025
In the smaller room ("Kabinett") this year, we are providing an overview of the history and holdings of the historic church library of St. Nikolai. The exhibition offers you the opportunity to take a look at this treasure "through the keyhole", so to speak. The St. Nikolai parish in Spandau has one of the few church libraries in Brandenburg whose holdings have been preserved for centuries without major loss. All phases of the cultural development of Brandenburg-Prussia - the Lutheran Reformation, the change of denomination in 1613, the rise of Huguenot intellectualism and the Enlightenment - left their mark, so that the library itself can be considered a cultural monument. You can find more information about the historical book collection here.
public guided tours through the cabinet exhibition and into the library room take place:
Usually every 14 days on Fridays at 4.30 pm (not on 15.8., 26.9.), duration: approx. 45 minutes:
25.4., 9.5., 23.5. (theme: architecture of the house), 6.6., 20.6. (theme: architecture of the house), 4.7., 18.7., 1.8., 29.8., 12.9., 10.10., 24.10. (last guided tour of the current exhibition).
Admission and guided tour free. The museum is located in a medieval half-timbered house and is therefore unfortunately not barrier-free.
