Allotment gardens and balconies are green oases amidst the concrete city landscape. But in recent years, climatic changes have also had an impact here. On our Future Day at the allotment colony Märchenland (Fairytale Land), we’re planning to find out together with you how gardening can become sustainable in the future.
Strawberries, tomatoes and fragrant lavender: small gardens are not just there for recreation and self-sufficiency, they also bring a piece of nature into our everyday lives. But the climatic changes are making themselves felt here too: drought, persistent heat and increasingly milder winters are changing soils, growth and crop periods. We need to adapt to this change.
On our Future Day at the allotment colony Märchenland, together with our experts from research and practice, we’ll be looking into the latest findings on gardening in our region. We want to find out about the strategies we need to apply in Berlin and Brandenburg in the future. How can we protect the soil and, at the same time, achieve good harvests? And can small gardens even contribute to improving the urban climate?

The following prompt was used: A vibrant, high-resolution photograph of a lush, well-maintained garden in full bloom. The garden is filled with a variety of flowers as well as green leafy plants and vegetables. The foreground is densely packed with leafy greens, while the background features a small, quaint garden shed with a white exterior and a dark brown door. The garden is surrounded by a wooden fence, and the ground is covered in a mixture of dirt and gravel paths. The sky is clear.
