International film premiere

The film "Generation Repair" gives the descendants of the victims of the genocide against the Ovaherero and Nama a visual voice.

Between documentary film and road movie, interviews in Windhoek, Otjinene, Swakopmund and Berlin show colonial contrasts of poverty and wealth of the descendants of victims and perpetrators, reflecting the traumatizing omnipresence of the historical genocide in Namibia today.

The film questions a "Joint Declaration" negotiated only between governments in
and searches for appropriate instruments in dealing with colonial genocide
from the diaspora perspective of people of African descent in Germany: What
alternatives and reparations could be developed to jointly address contemporary trauma
management? The question of how Germany deals with the inner-German
Black and BIPOC population today always resonates.

The film will be shown in the presence of district councillor Karin Korte and the filmmakers Adetoun Küppers-Adebisi and Michael Küppers-Adebisi.
The screening will be followed by a moderated discussion with Dr. Matthias Hen-
kel, head of the Museum | City History | Culture of Remembrance department.

The film (approx. 120 min., ENGLISH, HERERO, NAMA) was made possible by funding from LEZ Berlin and the Neukölln Youth Welfare Office.

The film will be shown as part of Black History Month Berlin 2024 and last year
of the UN Decade for People of African Descent - in cooperation with the initiative
Black People in Germany (isd)

The picture shows a group of cartoon-like figures on a golden, steampunk-like flying machine travelling through space with planets and constellations in the background. The scene exudes a sense of adventure and an imaginative, Victorian style.
