Lotte Eisner und der Maschinenmensch aus „Metropolis“
© Timon Koulmasis

Lotte Eisner (1896-1983) was one of the most fascinating figures of the past century. Murnau and Lang, Strohheim, Sternberg, Chaplin, Renoir, but also Brecht and Man Ray, later Herzog and Wenders, Godard and Truffaut - they all adored the author of the "Demonic Screen" and later chief curator of the Cinémathèque Française, who wrote the first Murnau monograph in 1964. Persecuted by the Nazis, fled to France, she has always remained an exile. In her life, the history of cinema and the history of the 20th century coincide and illuminate each other.
