Podcast Series Part 1: Dinner with Julie Elias
Her portrait by Max Liebermann hangs in the new Core Exhibition of the Jewish Museum Berlin: Julie Elias, Jewish writer and editor of numerous (cook)books.
In her day, readers were eager to hear her views on fashion, life as a woman, and art. This culinary artist wrote for various newspapers and published books such as the 1921 Die junge Frau: ein Buch der Lebensführung and the 1931 Der Besen des Magens: Käse und Käsegerichte (“The Young Woman: A Book for Leading a Life” and “The Broom of the Stomach: Cheese and Cheese Dishes”).
Our new podcast series has a culinary flavor with a dash of cultural history. Part 1 is dedicated to the Jewish writer and author of several (cook)books Julie Elias.
Let’s take a seat at the table and listen to what Birgit Claus, director of the museum café eßkultur, and Ulrike Sonnemann, library director, have to say about this interesting woman, emancipation, food culture, and the lives of Jewish women 100 years ago.
