Reunification also left its mark on the people of Prenzlauer Berg: Until 1989, Oderberger Straße, which is attractive for tourists today, was a dead-end street that ended at the Wall, a large part of the old buildings in the neighborhood crumbled, and today's U2 subway line only ran as far as Thälmannplatz. Many traces of the GDR era can still be traced today, but a great deal of change has also taken place. Streets and underground stations now bear different names. The Kulturbrauerei shows how vacant buildings can be used as cultural spaces. Kollwitzplatz is the center of a hip, gentrified neighborhood that has little to do with the decaying old buildings and East Berlin bohemia of the 1980s. The walk starts at the museum in the Kulturbrauerei and ends at Kollwitzplatz.
