Children from the age of 12 can celebrate their birthday together with their friends and family at Atelier Bunter Jakob. The cost for a group of up to 6 participants is a flat rate of 130 euros. Each additional person costs 12 euros. The children's birthday party at the Berlinische Galerie can be celebrated on Saturday or Sunday for three hours each. Siblings and parents are welcome. Children's birthday parties can also be booked in English.
The birthday party includes a "color lab". The children learn about the variety of natural pigments, animal and vegetable dyes, as well as different binders and painting grounds, and experiment with different ingredients: Gum arabic and bone glue, cochineal and kermes lice, madder varnish, walnut shells, alum and ferrous sulfate can be looked at, sniffed and their effects tested.
Inks are cooked from roots, seeds and flowers of dye plants. Experimental pictures are created with them, using acids and alkalis.
The self-made ink can be taken home to experiment further with it or to write special letters with it.
