To mark the 95th birthday of Anne Frank, Thomas Sparr will be reading from his book "I want to live on, even after my death" in the Philipp Schaeffer Library on June 12 from 8 pm. Beforehand, there will be a guided tour of the exhibition "All about Anne".
Thomas Barr's book is about the largely untold story of Anne Frank's world-famous diary. In doing so, he fills a gap in the narrative of Anne Frank's story. The Jewish girl Anne Frank (1929 - 1945) dreamed of one day becoming a famous writer. Her father Otto Frank, who was the only family member to survive the war, wanted to fulfill his daughter's wish: in 1947, her diary was published in the Netherlands under the title "Het Achterhuis", and the first German edition was published in 1950.
Today, Anne Frank's diary is one of the most widely read books in the world. The impact it has had since the post-war period is unparalleled and unbroken. But the story of its success is marked by obstacles and setbacks - and is largely unknown. Thomas Sparr knowledgeably deciphers how the diary came about, how it was disseminated, how it is received all over the world and why it is still with us today.
The reading will be followed by a discussion with Veronika Nahm, Director of the Anne Frank Center.
Before the reading, the Anne Frank Zentrum offers a free guided tour of the exhibition "All about Anne" from 18:30-19:30. The meeting point is the entrance area of the Anne Frank Zentrum at Rosenthaler Straße 39.
Registration is required on the website of the Philipp Schaeffer Library.
