The monument "Places of Remembrance" by Renata Stih and Frieder Schnock was inaugurated in 1993. It consists of 80 double-sided aluminum signs distributed on street lighting poles in the Bavarian Quarter in Berlin. On one side, they display colorful pictorial motifs; on the other, abbreviated texts with anti-Jewish decrees and laws from the years 1933 to 1945. The impressive signs commemorate the Jewish people of this neighborhood who were subjected to daily deprivation and exclusion during the Nazi period and were eventually deported and murdered. It is important to preserve the signs of the memorial as bearers of meaning of the past and the present.

The lecture will address, among other things, the genesis of the work and the materials and production techniques used, which were listed in form sheets.

Speaker: Tine Lippert
