main content start,

Christa Wolf and Brigitte Reimann met on a trip to Moscow by the Writers' Association in 1963. This was the beginning of a friendship between two headstrong, committed and creative women. At a time when it was not possible to speak and write openly, they confided in each other in their letters. Their letters unfold an authentic portrait of everyday life in the GDR in the 60s and 70s - full of difficulties, hopes and illusions - an "arrival in everyday life" of two great writers. There seems to be little left of the GDR. But if you read the work of Brigitte Reimann and Christa Wolf, their spiritual vitality is right in the middle of the room.

December 1st marks the 13th anniversary of Christa Wolf's death, an occasion to let these two artists have their say.
