Lux Orientis Ensemble

Inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy and Ibn Arabi's Kitap al Isra (Book of the Night Journey), we embark on a musical journey to the common roots of the Occident and the Orient. On the journey from heaven via the mountain of purification and paradise to hell, we are accompanied by the sounds of the occidental Middle Ages and the Ars nova, which are combined with improvisations and Arabic art music.

The Lux Orientis ensemble consists of five musicians who specialize in early music and/or traditional Arabic music. Based on the thesis of a historical continuum between “occidental” and “oriental” culture, the ensemble stands for the encounter of European and Middle Eastern traditions.

Five questions to the artists in the SIM Café

Music accompanies us everywhere - on the suburban train, in the department store, club or concert hall. It connects external scenes with inner feelings and transports us to other worlds. With the Sound Spaces concert series, the Musical Instrument Museum invites you to explore outer and inner sound spaces musically - at the interfaces of space, style and perception. The concerts echo the MIM's diverse collection, allowing music and historical context to be experienced as one.
