The village of Steinstücken attracted international attention in the 1960s: as a West Berlin exclave, it was connected to the western part of the city only by a small forest path and was protected by a U.S. military post and regular helicopter flights. The posthumously published novel "Steinstücken" by Rolf Haufs, who died in 2013, is dedicated to this curiosity of the history of German-German division, which is not lacking in absurdities. The novel is read by Haufs' widow Kerstin Hensel, who writes in her afterword:
"STEINSTÜCKEN is STEINSTÜCKEN is a novel. Poetic, grotesque, baroque, precise, laconic, written in the author's breathing rhythm. The staccato shows his being driven in claustrophobic panic. The author chases memories and is chased by them, always on high mental alert. Memories intertwine in flashbacks, déjà vu, shocks, in menacing Kafkaesque situations."
The reading will take place in the Nicholson Memorial Library of the Allied Museum. A purchase of the book will be available afterward.
