Neun Menschen aus Ost und West, die 1961 geboren wuren, sprechen über ihre Erfahrungen.

You are cordially invited to the opening of "Generation Mauerbau" on May 16, 2024 at 6 pm at the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial.

The video artists Ina Rommee and Stefan Krauss (KRRO Film) have spoken to people from East and West who were born in 1961, the year the Wall was built. The cinematic interviews convey individual life stories that are directly linked to the historical caesura. The interviewees thus become contemporary witnesses of a divided and reunited Germany.

The multimedia video installation with the "Generation Mauerbau" was realized by Dr. Christiane Bertram, University of Tübingen, in a cooperation project with the Berlin Wall Foundation, the Archive of German Memory at the University of Hagen and the Coordinating Office of Contemporary Witnesses.

On the evening of the presentation, Torsten Harmsen, one of the interviewees from East Berlin and now a journalist (Berliner Zeitung), will talk to two other participants in the project:

Sabine Harlos, who was born in East Berlin and got to know Hohenschönhausen as something "special" when she was still at school;

Nimet Leone, who grew up in Baden-Württemberg and traveled to West Berlin with her Turkish girlfriend.
