Museen Treptow-Köpenick

On October 1, 1920, Berlin abruptly became the third largest city in the world. 59 rural municipalities, 27 estate districts and seven cities formed the new unified municipality together with "Old Berlin". The population doubled to 3.8 million people and the area grew from 66 to 878 square kilometres. In the everyday life of the population, however, Berlin and its surrounding area had already grown together since the end of the 19th century. Industrial companies had settled in the suburbs, for example in Oberschöneweide, and thus promoted the rapid urban development.

From now on, the current special exhibition of the Treptow-Köpenick museums "We do not come empty-handed. The districts of today's Treptow-Köpenick on their way to Greater Berlin" is available as a video tour in four parts. The curators of the exhibition show and describe special exhibits and contexts around the formation of Greater Berlin.
