Weaving and basketry are both techniques that involve interlacing threads, but they do so in different ways. The Brücke Museum highlights the work of textile artist Lise Gujer, who designed tapestries, while the Museum of European Cultures focuses on basketry. This event combines visits to both exhibitions, comparing the textile techniques and linking the two exhibition formats.

Sofia Botvinnik (Curator, Museum of European Cultures) and Ximena G. Toro and Luna Weis (Assistant Curators, Brücke-Museum) will introduce you to both exhibitions. They will explore the similarities and differences between the techniques of tapestry and basketry - two diverse techniques based on handcrafted precision, embodied knowledge and artistic expression.

The tour begins in the Brücke Museum with the exhibition Lise Gujer. A New Way of Painting. In Dialogue with Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, and continues after the joint change of location with All Hands On: Braiding (link here: https://www.smb.museum/en/exhibitions/detail/all-hands-on-basketry/) at the Museum of European Cultures.
