For a long time, the history of Black people in Germany received no attention. In the 1980s, it was researched and documented for the first time by parts of the Black women's movement and presented to the public in the book "Farbe bekennen. Afro-German women on the trail of their history". The exhibition follows this research and focuses on the history of the Diek family. This leads from Douala to Hamburg via Danzig to Berlin in 1891. It is characterized by exoticization, racist attacks and persecution, but also by self-assertion, resistance and cohesion.
