Julius von Bismarck beschäftigt sich in seiner künstlerischen Praxis mit der Verortung des Menschen in seiner unmittelbaren Umwelt und mit dem, was gesellschaftlich als Natur verhandelt wird. Immer wieder bedient er sich der Dekonstruktion, um zu hinterfragen, wie wir als Gesellschaft Natur in Form von Landschaft bewerten und wer in diesem Bewertungsprozess die Deutungshoheit besitzt. Vor dem Hintergrund einer aktuellen Neubewertung deutscher Geschichtsschreibung rückt die Verflechtung von Naturphilosophie und Geschichte zunehmend in das Zentrum seiner Arbeit. Für seine Ausstellung in der Berlinischen Galerie wählt von Bismarck erstmals einen biografischen Zugang und stellt der deutschen Kolonialgeschichte die aktuelle Debatte um die Neu-Erfindung von Natur gegenüber.

Biografie

Julius von Bismarck (*1983 in Breisach am Rhein) wuchs in Riad (Saudi Arabien) auf. Er lebt und arbeitet in Berlin. In der Verknüpfung von bildender Kunst mit Themen der Natur- und Geisteswissenschaften nimmt seine künstlerische Praxis diverse Formen an: Installationen, Happenings, Skulpturen oder Land Art.
