Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) presents the first essay film by writer Katerina Poladjan (*1971 in Moscow). In a reworking of Marguerite Duras’s Il dialogo di Roma (1982), Poladjan presents images of the city of Rome, contrasting them with an off-screen dialogue: a woman and a man speak about the city, love, and life. Ancora un Dialogo di Roma explores the significance of Rome in the (Western) European imagination, while at the same time questioning fixed notions of “self” and “other.” Poladjan is known for her literary works In einer Nacht, woanders (One Night, Elsewhere, 2011), Vielleicht Marseille (Maybe Marseille, 2015), Hinter Sibirien. Eine Reise nach Russisch-Fernost (Beyond Siberia: A Journey to the Russian Far East, 2016), as well as Hier sind Löwen (Here Are Lions, 2019) and Zukunftsmusik (Upheaval, 2022). Ancora un Dialogo di Roma, created in collaboration with writer Henning Fritsch, marks her first foray into film.
