After the end of the Second World War, Berlin became a place of refuge for Jewish Displaced Persons (DP). They called themselves she'erit hapletah, "the last survivors". For most of them, Germany - as the country of the perpetrators - was the last place they wanted to stay. In Mariendorf, Zehlendorf and Reinickendorf camps were established in which Jewish DPs often lived for several years. The exhibition tells of their everyday life inside and outside the DP camps and their hopes for a future after the Shoah. At the same time, it takes a historical look at the immigration city of Berlin, which is still a place of migration and refuge for many people today.
The project is supported by the Szloma Albam Foundation and the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe. It will soon be available online at https://we-refugees-archive.org/.
