In 1985 Joseph Beuys contributed to the series "Reden über das eigene Land: Deutschland" ("Speeches about one's own country: Germany") at the Münchner Kammerspiele. In his speech he stated that he developed his works "from language". Equal to pictorial means of design, he understood language as a plastic material through which each and every individual could participate physically, intellectually and communicatively in the reorganization of society. Thus, his engagement with language ranges from silence to hour-long discussions, from animalistic-sounding sounds to precise discussions of concepts and enigmatic writings.

On Beuys' 100.On the occasion of Beuys' 100th birthday, the Hamburger Bahnhof is placing language at the center of an exhibition that includes sculptures, drawings, installations, films, posters, and documents - among them the cycle "The secret block for a secret person in Ireland" and the installation "Das Kapital Raum 1970-1977" - from the holdings of the National Gallery, the Marx Collection, the Kupferstichkabinett, and the Art Library.

A special exhibition of the National Gallery of the National Museums in Berlin.

Exberliner, rbb Kultur and tip Berlin are media partners of the exhibition.
