For the Year of the Voice 2025, the MIM commemorates the Berlin singer Julie Zelter. Six portraits show alongside Julie Zelter the musicians and composers Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch and Carl Friedrich Zelter, Julie’s husband. The range of Julie’s voice spanned three and a half octaves and was said to be as sweet and lovely as the magical voice of an angel. In 1791, she became one of the co-founders of the Berlin Sing-Akademie.

In 1796, Julie married Carl Friedrich Zelter (1758–1832), who was nine years her senior. The widower brought home nine children from his first marriage. A humorous drawing by the Prussian court sculptor Gottfried Schadow depicts their turbulent everyday family life. At the beginning of 1806, Julie died at the age of 39, giving birth to her third child. The Sing-Akademie commissioned a marble bust from Schadow in memory of the highly esteemed singer.
