The exhibition closed down after almost 13 years on 19 December 2021.
This privately-run exhibition (Dalí – Die Ausstellung) devoted entirely to the work of the Surrealist artist Salvador Dalí was opened in 2009 in a brand-new building on Leipziger Platz. Dalí was a highly productive Catalan artist who was active in all creative fields, and roughly 450 of his works – mostly print graphics as well as small objects and sculptures – are on display here on two floors. The museum has over 2,000 works from private collections at its disposal and occasionally exchanges individual graphic works and series.
The exhibition's various portfolios and cycles provide stunning insights into Dalí's skilfulness and inventiveness in visually representing subject matter taken from works of world literature. For example, his first colour lithographs on Cervantes’ "Don Quijote" from 1956 are on display here, as are his 1963 wood carvings on Dante's "Divine Comedy" and his 21 etchings on "Tristan und Isolde" from 1970. Many of Dali's illustrated books and installations are also on display. Documents, historical photographs and film sequences also give visitors a glimpse into Dalí's life and environment.
