On 20 January 1942, fifteen high-ranking representatives of the SS, the Nazi Party and various ministries gathered in a villa on Wannsee Lake to discuss and coordinate the deportation and murder of the Jews of Europe. Today, the house – which was built in 1915 and used as a SS guest house from 1941–1945 – is a memorial known as the House of the Wannsee Conference (Haus der Wannsee-Konferenz).
The permanent exhibition titled "The Wannsee meeting and the murder of the European Jews" provides information on the history of the persecution of Jews, their disenfranchisement and displacement between 1933 and 1939 as well as on the Nazi deportation, ghettoisation and murder of European Jews during WWII. The memorial offers a variety of opportunities to learn more about the persecution and murder of European Jews and the history and aftermath of National Socialism: visitors can take part in tours of the permanent exhibition, seminars and study days. The memorial also offers job-specific study days and multiple-day seminar events for adults. The House of the Wannsee Conference also offers teachers training events covering the memorial's pedagogical approach and actual teaching practices in different fields.
