The Ceramics Museum Berlin (Keramik-Museum Berlin) was founded in 1990 by an association set up to support the museum. The association collects ceramic art from the German cultural area starting in the mid-19th century and continuing to the modern era. All areas are represented here, including vessels, sculptures, building and oven ceramics. The collection comprises roughly 7,000 objects, a large part of which are gifts from artists and collectors. It also contains a specialist library and a comprehensive archive.
In 2004, the Ceramic Museum moved into the oldest townhouse (built in 1712) in the district of Charlottenburg. Today, the museum presents changing exhibitions on individual themes and ceramics in the refurbished building and in a new addition at the back. The museum also offers tours, lectures and events in its attractive courtyard.
