Mschatta-Fassade im Museum für Islamische Kunst

The Museum für Islamische Kunst (Museum of Islamic Art) presents the art of the Islamic peoples from the 8th to the 19th century in a permanent exhibition in the south wing of the Pergamonmuseum. The works of art come from an area that stretches from Spain to India. The focus is on the Near East, including Egypt and Iran.

The fine arts are represented in almost all fields, from architectural decoration to handicrafts and jewelry to book art. Particularly noteworthy is the partly complete architectural decoration, which also conveys spatial impressions in various materials: the stone facade of Mschatta, the excavation finds of stucco walls from palaces in Samarra, the painted wooden fillings of the Aleppo room and the wall ceramics in various techniques as prayer niches from Turkey and Iran.

Of the arts and crafts, almost all materials are represented: Vessel ceramics, metalwork, wood and bone carvings, glasses, fabrics, carpets. From the collection of book art, miniatures and Arabic-Persian calligraphies of the Mughal period are shown in temporary exhibitions.

The Pergamonmuseum is currently completely closed for renovation.
