The history of division and peaceful revolution
A Berlin museum panorama to mark 35 years since the fall of the Wall
The fall of the Berlin Wall on 9 November 1989 was the high point of the Peaceful Revolution. 35 years later, the city is once again commemorating this event. Following the iconic anniversaries in 2009 - with the oversized dominoes - and 2014 - with a 15-kilometre-long ‘border of lights’ - this time an installation of signs and posters on which people express their attitude towards freedom and democracy will be created along a section of the former border in the centre of the city. These thousands of statements will be complemented by a historical exhibition at seven locations in the city, in which the history and significance of the Peaceful Revolution will be told and categorised. Freedom, democracy and human rights - these values have lost none of their virulence today. We have compiled an overview of all the museums that deal with the various aspects of division, the GDR regime and the peaceful revolution from different perspectives - and not just for the anniversary.
