Measures against coronavirus (COVID-19)
Closure of Berlin's museums extended
Due to the continued high number of infections with the corona virus, the Berlin Senate decided on November 26, 2020 to initially extend the closure of the cultural institutions in the capital until December 22. The museums are also affected by the closure. We would like to keep you up to date in the renewed shutdown. Here you can find the current press release of the Berlin Senate.
Despite the temporary closings, you don't have to miss out on art and culture. Even if a physical visit is not currently possible, there are many ways to experience museums, online! You are cordially invited to use the coming days and weeks to discover the digital offerings of the museums: for example, visit an exhibition from home, listen to a curator conversation, browse through online archives or explore the Museum Island virtually. Our magazine article gives you an overview of the digital offers of the Berlin museums. You can also find further offers at our cooperation partner berlinalive.de. This digital event calendar offers you culture via livestream and supports cultural workers with a direct donation option.
Prevention is the order of the day. Support and solidarity are just as important: the museums will have to cope with further financial losses due to the renewed closure. There are many ways to support Berlin's cultural institutions. You can find information about donations on the websites of various houses. You could also join a circle of friends and become a long-term supporter. We have put together in an article the possibilities that are available for young people. If you can afford it, you may not want to get a refund for tickets you've already bought. All of this helps the cultural institutions in the crisis that affects us all. With this in mind: stay at home, stay healthy and stay curious!
