Museum Sunday
Abolished
1 December 2024 was the last Museum Sunday. One last time: Sundays without admission to the museum! After 2.2 million visits on 42 Sundays in 81 museums, it was with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to Museum Sunday.
Why? The promotion and financial support of Museum Sunday by the state of Berlin for the state-funded institutions and cultural projects in Berlin, for the overarching communication and organisation of the project, is no longer planned due to the cuts in the cultural budget. Further funding is also not available to the state museums. The joint pioneering project of around 80 Berlin museums for cultural participation and the lowering of entry barriers has thus come to an end.
The admission-free Museum Sunday was an initiative of the state of Berlin in cooperation with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
