The Belevedere on the Pfingstberg was planned by Frederick William IV as a huge complex with terraces, cascades and colonnades. Italian Renaissance villas served as models. In the two construction phases from 1847 to 1852 and from 1861 to 1863, the architects Ludwig Persius, Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse and Friedrich August Stüler realised only the double tower. It encloses the inner courtyard with a water basin surrounded by arcades, colonnades and galleries. From these, one can access two cabinets in the Moorish and Roman Pompeian styles. Open staircases lead to the roof of the gate hall, from which the view falls into a forecourt framed by wing walls with a lawn parterre and arcades, as well as the Temple of Pomona.
Heavily dilapidated after the Second World War, the historical ensemble has been restored since 1992 on the initiative of the Pfingstberg Friends Association with donations and today once again offers its visitors the most beautiful view over Potsdam and the Havel lakes. During the summer months, numerous cultural events also take place here.
